PRESS RELEASE: The Social Institute to present at the NAIS annual conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Social Institute Teams Up With Ravenscroft School at the NAIS Annual Conference
Laura Tierney to co-present with school leaders about positive social media education

Durham, North Carolina — March 1, 2018 — On Friday, March 9, at the National Association of Independent School’s annual conference in Atlanta, The Social Institute’s president, Laura Tierney, will co-present “The Future of Social Media Education” with Ravenscroft School leaders Jason Ramsden, Susan Perry, and Colleen Ramsden.

“Ravenscroft is a shining example of how independent schools can proactively empower students, parents, and educators to navigate social media positively,” says Tierney. “Our presentation at NAIS will walk school leaders through a step-by-step process for aligning their school mission with positive social media education. After all, social media is not going away. It’s how students socialize.”

“The future of social media education is here today. No independent school should wait to teach their students how to win the game of social media,” notes Jason Ramsden, chief information officer for Ravenscroft and board president of The Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools. “I encourage my colleagues across the country to understand the power of teaching students the positive aspects of social media and how schools can combine that philosophy with a technology and health-and-wellness-focused approach where everyone wins: students, parents and their schools.”

Ravenscroft Assistant Head of School for Student Affairs Susan Perry explains, “Our social media education model, co-created with The Social Institute, is a modern, dynamic example of how schools, students, and their families can partner to learn positive social media use. Instead of focusing on teachers and parents coaching down, it relies as much on students coaching up. They are, after all, ahead of us when it comes to social media.”

Twitter chat

To kick off the conference, @TheSocialInst will host a one-hour Twitter chat about the future of social media education. Anyone can join by following #WinAtSocial on Twitter starting at 2:30 EST on March 7. The Social Institute will lead the chat with a series of questions and encourages participation by those at the NAIS conference and others.

Expo booth and raffle

The Social Institute will also be at Booth 242 at the conference expo March 7 – 9, directly across from the NAIS Expo Maker Space. Tierney, Social Media Coach Sean Kelly, and Director of Operations Shayna Heinrich will be giving online tours of The Social Institute’s parent and teacher portal called the Social Locker Room.

Attendees can enter a raffle to win a month of free access for their school’s parent community. Selfies with the staff are optional but encouraged, especially if paired with a positive message and the hashtags #winatsocial and #NAISAC.

Laura was the keynote speaker at the North Carolina Association of Independent School’s Assistant Head conference in January 2018.
