Why are students around the country singing a catchy song about corn?

It all started with an interview by Julian Shapiro-Barnum, the host of @RecessTherapy. In a wholesome interview, a young boy talks about how much he loves corn and makes the viral statement: “When I tried it with butter, everything changed! I love corn. Mmm, corn.” After the interview was posted, @Schmoyoho (a TikTok run by The Gregory Brothers) took the audio and added instrumental and background music, making it a viral sensation on TikTok

So why do we care so much about “The Corn Song?” Well, when a song about corn takes over the internet, you’ve got to wonder, how? This sweet interview and the catchy song became something everyone found a way to relate to, and we’re here to cover how and why it should matter to you. Let’s go:

How The Corn Song started

Julian Shapiro-Barnum is famous for his street interviews in New York City with young children, and his interview with “the corn boy” is no exception. In these interviews, he tends to ask for advice and opinions on various topics. For this interview, Julian asks a young boy about his latest obsession, to which the boy proudly states, “I really like corn, ever since I was told that corn was real, it tasted good!”

When @schmoyoho got ahold of the audio, TikTok changed forever. He turned the interview clip into possibly the catchiest song about corn to ever exist. The song quickly went viral, and people everywhere are using it to make videos about the things they love. Stranger Things actress Grace Van Dien even resonated with the song so much that she tweeted about it.
