Building the Foundation: How Forward-Thinking Schools Equip K-5 Students with the Modern Life Skills for Positive Decision-Making

When it comes to teaching modern life skills, starting early matters. Even at a young age, kindergarteners make decisions every day, whether it’s on the playground or through their first experiences with technology. These early moments shape how they approach problems, interact with others, and see themselves.

By strengthening their positive decision-making skills or helping them build confidence, elementary schools set their students up for success in the classroom and beyond. With strong foundations in place, students are better equipped to navigate friendships, social challenges, and technology with positivity and thoughtfulness.

That is why The Social Institute is expanding #WinAtSocial to support all of K-5. Now, educators teaching K-2 can teach offline lessons that fuel responsible decision making with turnkey, offline lessons.

Hear from Jonna Wahle, Integrated Tech Specialist at McDonogh School in MD, and Katie Hanson, School Counselor at Bob Callies Elementary School in ND, about how they implemented #WinAtSocial to support their elementary students’ learning, well-being, and futures.

How McDonogh School addresses student challenges with #WinAtSocial’s suite of solutions

“Before being introduced to #WinAtSocial, we were using other digital citizenship lessons that were very kid-friendly.  And, you know, while they were great, I wanted something that was going to really address the questions that were coming up, specifically with my fourth and third graders, who do have personal devices at home, and may have more access to those apps and phones and things like that than they did maybe a couple of years ago.”

How Bob Callies Elementary sparks meaningful conversations about trending topics with students through #WinAtSocial

“It’s been very comforting, as an educator, to know that we have #WinAtSocial as a resource to help students be prepared socially, be prepared career-wise, and in their relationships with each other and with us. It’s really nice to have the curriculum to prepare them that way.”
