Welcome to Huddle Up, The Social Institute’s interview series on how social media, tech, and current events shape student learning, well-being, and future success. In this episode, we’re joined by Marymount School of New York students and Eric Walters, Director of STEM Education, who led the Girls + Social Media Research Report in partnership with ICGS.

According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, 93% of students report that social media impacts their sleep. And Secure Data recovery report that nearly all of Gen Z are actively engaged in group chats. It’s clear that today’s students face unique challenges in navigating their online world. As school leaders look toward 2025, a key focus is on empowering students to develop healthy habits and engage in meaningful research and collaboration around issues that matter to them.
