FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Social Institute to Co-Present With Students at the NCAIS 2018 Women in Leadership Conference
Laura Tierney and future women leaders to share positive ways to navigate social media

Durham, North Carolina — June 8, 2018 — At the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools’ 2018 Women in Leadership Conference on June 10 – 11, 2018, The Social Institute’s CEO and founder, Laura Tierney, will meet with students and school administrators to brainstorm effective strategies for positive social media education in high school.

This is the first time NCAIS is inviting female students to attend a student portion of the annual event, calling it “a unique summer leadership opportunity that nurtures and cultivates [students’] interests in creating an inclusive and equitable school community,” according to the organization’s website. Conference goers entering 9th or 10th grade can sign up to meet with Tierney on Monday, June 10, to discuss real-life social media scenarios they face and how they can proactively empower each other to navigate them positively. On June 11, she and the students will co-present to school administrators effective ways to empower high school students, parents, and educators to do the same.

“Students, educators, and social media experts coming together to brainstorm the future of social media education — it doesn’t get any better than that,” said Tierney. ‘Our team at The Social Institute is proud to be a bridge between students and school leaders, helping them uncover the most effective ways their school can win at social media. In a world where social media education is often top-down, we appreciate the NCAIS Women’s Leadership Conference allowing us to take a bottom-up approach where students coach up to adults.”

The Social Institute will also be exhibiting at the event, sharing with attendees how the company is reinventing social media education by using a uniquely positive and gamified approach that teens trust and respect. Sean Kelly, social media coach, and Shayna Henrich, director of operations, will be at the booth to answer questions and explain how we work with schools across the country.
